Submit a Proposal
Submit a proposal for the AAUP Annual Conference on the State of Higher Education, to be held June 12–14, 2013, in Washington, D.C. Proposals will be accepted through November 30.
I highly encourage everybody to speak at the conference. Let me know if you need any help putting together a proposal, or if you have any suggestions for speakers/topics we should approach for a proposal.
The AAUP’s Journal of Academic Freedom seeks scholarly articles relating to the topic of academic freedom and globalization. Due date for papers is Jan 31, 2013.
And finally, the AAUP's ASC regional workshop will be Sat. Nov. 10 in St. Louis. We should encourage our southern and central Illinois colleagues to attend. Here are the details:
ASC Regional Workshop
The Faculty Voice in Missouri
St. Louis, Missouri November 10, 2012
At Missouri Southern State University, the faculty voted no confidence in their president, and at the University of Missouri, the president admitted, “guilty as charged” to closing the press without faculty input. Across the state, budget cuts have prompted administrations to make decisions without consulting the faculty. The American Association of University Professors maintains that the faculty must play a key role in all major decisions at their institutions. This one-day workshop will answer your questions about how to increase effective faculty involvement at your institutions. Like a mini version of the AAUP’s Summer Institute, it will feature sessions on handbooks, faculty senates, shared governance, governing boards, intellectual property, and academic freedom—and it will also provide financial analyses of your home institutions that will give you the rationale for challenging top-down decisions to cut programs and dismiss faculty.
